Running after You
Ben Cantelon, Survivor Records 2009
Ben’s new album contains anthemic songs as well as personal expressions of worship. He is a worship leader who started out at Soul Survivor and is now based at Worship Central in Holy Trinity Brompton.
From the first track ‘Not ashamed’ the band produce a full on sound to get things going followed swiftly by ‘God of all’ in the same vein.
Jericho is one of my favourite tracks and is a unique way of calling on God to take down the walls in our lives. Coming back is then one of the most powerful songs I’ve heard recently that calls us back into personal relationship with God. I heard Ben do this song at the Worship Together conference in Eastbourne last year and it went down really well.
Remain is a good song and breathe also but they probably won’t feature heavily in worship services. Carry on is a simple but personal song with a melancholic tone.
Running after you is the title track of the album, incase you wondered why the album artwork is Mr Cantelon running everywhere in downtown America! It’s a good tune to start off the year with: ‘you are my reward, it’s you I’m living for, take all that I am, for I am yours’.
Hallelujah is a song that builds with atmospheric intensity to echo the heavenly cry around which the song is built. The album finishes with You Alone, another acoustic song that is a simple but perfect way to finish.
All in all this is an album that will grow on you the more you listen to it. Ben Cantelon is at his best when rocking out anthemic songs and the live sound is amazing but there are some simple and powerful ballads also. Enjoy!
